I put up a few shots that I really dig from my Del shoot, you can find them in my 1st Music portfolio.

I'm not sure which Del photos will be published in the story, I usually don't find out until I see it in print, then I bitch about the shot they've used lol...

I'm debating on shooting AFI tonight, might skip it and go to this Halloween party I've been invited to instead we'll see, actually I'm supposed to shoot Black Label Society on Sunday, not sure I'm in the mood for that either...

I got my shots back from the Flogging Molly show last week, they came out killer (of course) The City is using one of my "Dennis Casey" shots in my buds column.

I shot Del last night for a story me and my homie are doing...Del was staying at a nice swanky hotel, it had this killer Vegas style water fall out front, so I blasted off a few rolls of film there and inside the hotel lobby, the restaraunt was very uppity...think, lots of marble, classical music over the sound system and everything on the menu is $50.00 and up, the thing that caught my eye was the baby grande piano, perfect photo prop. I convinced Del, who didn't want to disturb the people eating to sit at the piano and play a lil' bit while I took a few shots, can't wait to see how they came out...

Just found some cool Casualties photos I'm going to publish...

Got an advance of the new Deftones album for a review that I'm writing, haven't had time to absorb it completely, has this band ever put out a bad album? nope never have...I'll put up a link to the review when it's been published, go to there myspace page, there streaming the whole album until the 27th...

I've put up a few limited edition t-shirts

Ya know I take photos of musicians because I love music *sidenote: I'm a musician myself...drummer

I also love photography...many different facets of the medium intrigue me not just photos of musicians and pop icons...I don't do this because I make a shit load of money, actually it's very very difficult to make a living at this unless your Ross Halfin or Danny Clinch

Sometimes taking photos of bands is more a chore than anything else, but the reward for all of the hard work is when you get that shot...

So dig this, I was talking with a bud of mine about how killer the Heavy Trash album is and how many hot model chicks he's been shooting lately ya da ya da and the topic of Aerosmith and Motley Poo came up, there going to be in the area again and he's put in a request to shoot them.

This had me scratching my head, hmmm this might be cool.

I'm sure there's going to be a boat load of super hot chicks there...These cheesy hair rock bands always pull a lot of ass. I've never gotten that...it seems like the more gay and devoid of soul the music is...the hotter the chicks are *shrugs*

Are they still relevant?

Yea, I guess there's still a Camaro driving, genny drinking, mullet wearing, fringe jacket having crowd that is still trapped in the 80's and listens to this crap...

I've never been a big fan of either band. I would always get hassled in high school because I didn't listen to this s**t and listened to the Cure, the Bad Brains and Fishbone...

So I asked my bud "Where are they playing?" Darien Lake in Sept...

DARIEN LAKE HAS THEEE ABSOLUTE WORST F'ING STAGE I'VE EVER SEEN!!...No shit, it's 10ft to 15ft in the air *literally* and you CANNOT get a good shot! well I guess there may be a way if you follow these steps

A. pray the the musician comes to the very front of the stage where your standing so you can attempt a shot
B. you've brought a ladder or stilts in your camera bag
C. you pay one of the security apes a large sum of money to hoist you up on there shoulders for three songs...

I'm working on concepts for my new site...I so hate my existing web site, it was cool like 6 years ago...now I can't even look at it...

I can tell you the new site will be done in Flash, there may be some html incorporated in the design as well I haven't finalized everything yet...of course it's going to look hella cool...the design will be very simplistic, a few portfolios, contact info and my blog that's it...I'm putting away all of my older stock photos

Ok confession time...I've got a bit of a krush on Joan Jett, actually I've had one ever since I saw the "I Love Rock N' Roll" video in the early 80's...

I had a chance to catch her live for the 1st time last week at the Warped tour and she was a'frickin'mazing! sidenote: she let the photographers shoot the whole set, VERY COOL! because we usually only get the 1st three songs unless you've got permission to shoot more

Classic tunes with hooks for days...Leather pants, Jet black hair and a Bikini top, doesn't get any better than that

A few weeks before seeing her I blew the dust off my old JJ records, some of which I hadn't played in 15 years...ahhh the memories

The only drag...she only got as did all of the bands on Warped a 30 minute set...waaaay to short...I tell ya what though, by the time she got to the last tune of her set the crowd was putty in her hands...fists in the air singing along to every word....easily the highlight of the Warped tour for me...

Helmet was also very cool Page is one of the nicest cats you could ever meet...the set consisted of mostly songs off Meantime and Betty, the new material also went over well...

It was good to see Angelo Moore aka Dr Maddvibe he had his own tent set up and was doing poetry and causing mayhem. I passed him some older 8x10 prints that I took the last time I saw Fishbone play (I think that was 2002)...Angelo's new interactive comic book/cd is hella cool, cop it if you have some extra loot.

Man it was wicked hot, over 100 degrees...the music was non-stop, water was $4.00 a bottle (outrageous, price gauging nazis!)

Saw Arturo Vega (the guy who designed all the cool Ramones artwork) he had a tent set up selling Ramones swag...

I shot a boatload of bands, LTJ Less Than Jake, The Casualties *there using one of my photos in there new album digipak*, Helmet, Joan Jett, AFI *there singer uses more makeup than my wife*, Everytime I Die, Billy Talent, NOFX...I know I'm missing a few.

I've got over 400 prints to scroll through. I'll have some new stuff up shortly.

I'm shooting Bullet for My Valentine on 8/15 in Buffalo...

I've got a few really cool concepts for the shoot in my head and if they come out it'll be really saaaweet.

I copped the new Helmet album on Tuesday, I've been a HUGE fan of there's for the longest time...Meantime is the shit...that album still sounds just as killer now as it did back in the early 90's

I'm shooting them on the 1st...stoked for that

Monochrome is there best album since Betty...this record has a great vibe to it, actually it sounds reminiscent *without duplicating* the bands earlier work on "Born Annoying" and "Meantime"

I was just checking out my schedule for the rest of the month, might shoot Rock City Morgue later tonight, Sean Yseult formerly of White Zombie plays with this band...on the 24th I'm shooting Fatlip and on the 1st I'm covering the Warped tour...the lineup is bananas...

I shot Busta Rhymes on Saturday at the Music Fest...I'll publish photos from that later this week...

Ya know, I don't get parents who bring there 7 and 8 year old kids to a Busta show, actually looking around some of the kids could have been younger than that, well at least the one who got lost and the parents were asked to pick her up at the side of the stage *she couldn't have been any older than 5*

It was appalling watching the kids singing along to some of his new tracks word for word all of them clearly with no understanding of the word Misogyny...I'm all about exposing your kids to music and culture however there should be limits to what they are listening to at certain ages...

When I was 10 and bought my 1st album *with my own money*. I remember vividly bringing that record home and my mom seeing the cover and her saying verbatim "Hold on a second, lets just give that a listen together" she shared in the experience, mom didn't dig there look at all, but she thought the music was hella cool...

I was going to shoot She Wants Revenge in Buffalo tonight, but I'm going to pass and cover the Buzzcocks on Wed instead...

Got to the Suicide City shoot last night, band wasn't ready..hung around for 3 hours while they put on makeup, finally got to it at 11:30..the shots came out amazing of course...the band is a lot of fun and down for anything, they gave me all the time I needed with no drama...

I'm not that stoked with these shots, a few of them came out cool *the one where Jimmy knocked over the bass player and she's laying on the floor is tight*...anyway I had this jerk off in the pit with me shooting digital and he had a HUGE flash on his EOS 1D overexposing some of my shots (that's what Photoshop is for though huh?) I used Illford that night as well and I can never get a decent shot with that stuff *shrugs*

I'm shooting Suicide City at the Montage this Friday...this building is hella cool, it has an old theatre in the back with a myriad of balcony seats, esbestos and shit falling from the ceiling, it's got a very "Escape From New York" vibe to it (you remember that flick right?) there's also some cool dressings rooms in the building that they used back in the 50's, broken mirrors and a spooky industrial feel...should be a blast.

I'm Audi, but before I go let me introduce you to one of thee funkiest drummers on the planet...

Last weeks shoot with She Wants Revenge actually I wouldn't even call it a shoot. Justin didn't feel well and wasn't into it at all...It's gotta be rough getting your photo taken and signing girls breasts all the time...anyway I got the b&w shots back from the lab and they look ok, they could have been a LOT better if both members of the band were cooperating. I'll put up a link to the story once it's been published.

I'm shooting Wycliffe Gordon tonight, actually I need to call this cat to make sure everythings set...

I just found out about the Legendary Photographer William Gottlieb passing...

William Gottlieb, whose iconic photos of jazz legends such as Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong helped to define the image of jazz to music fans worldwide, died Sunday, April 23, at his home in Great Neck, N.Y., of a stroke. He was 89.
Gottlieb first used a camera in 1939 to illustrate his weekly jazz column ?Swing Sessions" in the Washington Post. He was paid for the writing, not the photography, and since the film, flash bulbs, and cameras (Speed Graphics and Rolleis) were bulky and expensive, he typically made only three or four exposures a session. He learned to shoot very carefully.

The photography paid off. It enhanced his column, later helped him become an Air Force photo officer in WWII, then clinched a job on DownBeat, where many of his images of the likes of Thelonious Monk and Dizzy Gillespie were first published. While at DownBeat, Gottlieb was an exceptional ?man on the street? reporter, letting the artists tell their stories through his articles such as his ?Posin?? column (after which today?s ?The Question? column in DownBeat is modeled).

Gottlieb left the jazz scene in 1948 to produce educational filmstrips, eventually as president of University Films/McGraw-Hill. He also wrote and illustrated 16 books, mostly for children. One of his Golden Books, ?Laddie The Superdog? sold more than 1 million copies.

Upon retiring from McGraw-Hill in 1979, Bill published his old jazz photos as The Golden Age of Jazz. The New York Times predicted that Gottlieb ?seems to be entering the golden age of William P. Gottlieb.?

His jazz images have since appeared on more than 350 record album and CD covers, on two dozen posters, and a like number of postcards and T-shirts. They have been in hundreds of books, magazines, calendars, TV documentaries, and even in major motion pictures as background atmosphere or used to re-create a historic site.

Meanwhile, exhibitions of the prints have appeared in more than 160 venues, from the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm to the Navio Museum in Osaka, Japan.

Some of Gottlieb?s photos, starting with Duke Ellington, were acquired by the National Portrait Gallery: and his images are the basis of four US Postage Stamps. In 1998, DownBeat presented Gottlieb with our annual Lifetime Achievement Award.

In 1995, the Library of Congress, using funds from the Ira & Leonore S. Gershwin Fund, purchased all 1,600-plus of Gottlieb's jazz images ?for posterity.?

I watched "Cinderella Man" man last night...kick ass movie...I'm gonna try and check out "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" later tonight if I can stay awake...

I shot Blackalicious, the Lifesavas & Pigeon John last Friday the 31st...I got to the show late so I missed the Savas and Fatlip's set (pissed about that) I heard Lip did a few Pharcyde tunes...

I saw Lip at the venue walking around looking like a zombie. He had that "28 Days Later" vibe working. Dude had a really bad limp or a cool walk I couldn't tell..he was rocking this raggedy hobo gear and looking like he hadn't showered in a month. C'mon now your not getting any residuals from the Pharcyde albums!?! Go cop some new gear duke and ease up on the blunts, it's not a good look...

Anyway, I knew my boy Jay was going to interview him later and I wasn't doing anything at this point in the evening except drinking beers and scoping out the honeys so I figured why not take a few snaps of Lip as well. I saw him at the merch stand while I was talking with Vurs and asked if he had some time later would he mind talking a few photos, he was like cool at least I think that's what he was mumbling...

Here's the breakdown: Jay wrapped up his 5 minute interview...Lip approached me I said "Ok lets get some shots over here by this graffiti on the wall" mind you this was the same place me and Pigeon John took photos earlier. Lip seemed ok with it at first, I couldn't really read him he was acting so fucking weird. I started getting funny vibes from him on the way over to where I wanted to shoot, like dude thought I was gonna beat his ass or something. He changed his mind and said "Nah dude I'm straight" *confused look on my face* ok, what theee fuck eva bro...I kept it moving...

I will say this Lip's new solo album is tight.

Had a chance to get together with Pigeon John and the Savas for some photo ops (they were all hella cool - always are) spoke with Vurs he was like "Damn bro, I wish you would have gotten to the venue earlier so we could have taken some photos for the next album"....We talked a little about me potentially doing some work for there next release, can't say much else about that right now...

Published new photos from the Lifesavas, Pigeon John, Cuong Vu and Manny Valera...have a look when you get a minute...

I'm in the middle of making dinner Gnocchi and sauce (yum!) just wanted to give a quick holla...

I took some photos of Manny Valera last week (super nice guy!) it was great to see him play again, he was accompanied by a trio on these two dates...his newest album "Melancolia" is amazing! I'm going to be writing a review on it, I'll have a link up to that when it's done and a few of the photos from the shoot...you can get to his site from my links page go check it out...there's some tunes up on his site for your ears and a link to buy his albums...

The latest local phenom "Teddy Geiger" is playing a SOLD OUT show tonight and all of the TRL girls are going to be there...one of my good friends sent me an e-mail earlier asking if I was going to shoot the show...his daughter who is 6 would love a print of TG...the answer is: regretfully no...I won't be able to make it to the gig...

Making a mental note to myself to smack this guy next time I'm at his house for pops.

Of course if I was getting paid to cover the gig, I would be there with my camera bag in hand...It's ALL about the $$$$

R.I.P. Gordon Parks

Another one of my heroes has passed...I can't even begin to explain what a profound effect Mr. Parks had on me wanting to pick up a camera and not just from a still photographic standpoint, every facet of his life whether it be directing, composing music or writing poetry. He did it all with such style and compassion, I wish I could have met him and talked shop before he left us in this world.

He truly lived a full life.

Here's more:

Gordon Parks, a photographer, filmmaker and poet whose pioneering chronicles of the black experience in America made him a revered elder and a cultural icon, died yesterday at his home in New York. He was 93.

His nephew, Charles Parks of Lawrence, Kan., said Parks had cancer and had been in failing health since 1993.

Parks, the son of a dirt farmer, rose from meager beginnings and above recurrent discrimination to walk through doors previously closed to African Americans. He was the first black to work at Life magazine and Vogue, and the first to write, direct and score a Hollywood film, "The Learning Tree" (1969), which was based on a 1963 novel he wrote about his life as a farm boy in Kansas. He also was the director of the 1971 hit movie "Shaft," which opened the way for a host of other black-oriented films.

Elegant and aristocratic with a trademark bushy mustache, his work traversed a vast landscape from poverty and crime to luxury and high fashion. He was a high school dropout turned award-winning photographer who traveled the world, using his camera with deftness and defiance.

"I didn't set out to do all that I did," Parks told an interviewer. "I think there was always fear -- fear of not being educated. All the things I did were done because of the fear of failure."

He was born Gordon Roger Alexander Buchanan Parks on Nov. 30, 1912, in Fort Scott, Kan., the youngest of 15 children. His mother died when he was 16. He then lived with his sister in St. Paul, Minn., for a while before he struck out on his own. He left school and took on a number of jobs, including as a pianist with an all-white band and with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

While working on the Northern Pacific Railroad in the late 1930s, Parks picked up a magazine that had been left by a passenger and leafed through it. A photo spread of migrant workers and their living conditions taken by Carl Mydans, Dorothea Lange, Ben Shahn and others working for the Farm Security Administration captivated him.

One afternoon in the winter of 1937, during a stopover in Chicago, he saw newsreel footage taken by Norman Alley of the sinking of the USS Panay by Japanese forces. Parks compared Alley's documentary approach with the works of Farm Security Administration photographers and had an epiphany.

"Suddenly I became aware of all the things I could say through this medium," he once said. "I sat through another show, and even before I left the theater, I had made up my mind to become a professional photographer."

He paid $12.50 for his first camera, a Voigtlander Brilliant, at a pawnshop. His camera was "my weapon against poverty and racism," he said.

Soon he was photographing eye-catching young black women in fashion spreads for a St. Paul department store.

In 1942, he began working in Washington at the Farm Security Administration, the agency created to call attention to produce a historical record of social and cultural conditions across the country.

The discrimination that he experienced in the city left him raw. During this period, he took what became one of his signature photographs, a picture of Ella Watson, a cleaning woman who worked in the agency's building. He positioned Watson in front of an American flag, a broom in one hand and a mop in the other. He named the picture "American Gothic, Washington, D.C." The photograph captured his style of focusing on one particular person to illustrate a broad social theme.

"I never allowed the fact that I experienced bigotry and discrimination to step in the way of doing what I have to do," he once said. "I don't understand why other people let that destroy them."

Parks later went on to Life magazine, where from 1948 to 1968 he covered segregation, crime and other issues. His 1961 photograph of a poor Brazilian boy named Flavio da Silva brought in enough donations to help the family build a house.

St. Clair Bourne, who directed a 2000 HBO documentary on Parks's life, was a young photographer when he first met Parks while covering a civil rights march. He was one of many black filmmakers and photographers who respected Parks for his historical role.

"He educated white people about the black experience, and as an artist he used his skills to do that," Bourne said in a 2000 article in the New York Times. "Today, it would be harder: the lines, political and cultural, have hardened. But when Gordon came along, there was a great deal of ignorance about the real experience of black people."

A self-taught pianist, he composed Concerto for Piano and Orchestra (1953) and Tree Symphony (1967). In 1989, he composed and choreographed "Martin," a ballet dedicated to civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

His autobiographies were "A Choice of Weapons" (1966), "To Smile in Autumn" (1979), and "Voices in the Mirror" (1990). His poetry anthologies include "A Poet and His Camera" (1968), "Arias of Silence" (1994) and "Glimpses Toward Infinity" (1996).

In 1998, Parks donated 227 pieces of his work to the Corcoran Gallery of Art.

He was married and divorced three times. Survivors include three children.

Freedom, Parks said, was the theme of all of his work: "Not allowing anyone to set boundaries, cutting loose the imagination and then making the new horizons."

I just got in from the Prong show...I'm not sure who promoted this gig, but whoever it was did a s**t job...I could get more into that but what's the point.

Prong sounded amazing, I haven't seen them since 93' when they opened for the Bad Brains...I hope this new lineup stays together, it would be cool to hear some studio material from them...It was good to see Tommy Victor & Co. still making noise. I'll have photos up from the gig shortly.

Eyes of Fire opened the show...best live band I've seen in ages, and I go to a lot of shows, so ya know I'm not just blowing smoke. If they come through your town go check them out and you'll see what I'm ranting about. I got some photos with the band after there set, I'll have a link to the story and photos when it's been published. There new album "Prisons" was released a few weeks ago. I finished up my X-Mas shopping tonight...thank god!

I'm watching a PIXIES concert from this year, it was filmed at one of those HUGE festivals over in Europe.

Observations: It's filmed beautifully and the sound is awesome!, the band is tight as hell, no chit chat between songs, they've played just about the whole Doolittle album, Kim Deal is chain smoking and looking semi-fuckable, Francis looks like he put on 50 or 60 pounds (but the camera adds 30 of that right?) anyway this is a must watch for any Pixies fan...it's making me wonder why I haven't taken any photos of them recently, fuck I think it's time for me to get an agent lol

It's super cold here in Rochester, NY (yuk)

I had a blast @ Living Colour the other night, I hadn't seen them play since 93' when Bad Brains (minus HR and Earl) opened for them in a University Gymnasium *that was one of the worst sounding concerts I've ever heard, the acoustics were hellacious*

The band looked and sounded great, they played @ lot of tunes off there 1988 album Vivid my fave of the evening "Glamour Boys"

I brought a great print *16X20* to the show that I took of Vernon a few years ago, the only drag was not getting a chance to hang with him after the bands set (the Vodka Red Bulls were calling me lol!)...If you've ever had the chance to bend Vernon's ear then ya know he's a really cool, funny & intelligent cat. I saw him play last year and later on in the evening after the band finished we talked music, art and movies for damn near 3 hours...anyway I had to pass my print off to the roadcrew which made me a lil uneasy, but the cats who work for LC are cool, so it was relatively painless...

Soulive went on @ 11:30 and sounded amazing!

The show was great I shot a few rolls of film and on the way home got lost in Buffalo for an hour...what a nightmare City to drive around in, especially if you don't have a map and hate asking for directions...

I'm shooting Soulive again this week along with theNEWDEAL & Corrosion of Conformity

It's snowing here in NY (sucks) - I'm not dig'n it even a little...

Buju Banton was un-freeging-believable the other night - Gorgeous half naked chicks all over the club and Buju rocking out, don't get much better than that...I had a blast...the photos came out great of course...I'll put some up when the new site is done.

Ok so I just got back from an Yngwie Malmsteen show, now before I get off on a rant here let me say the whole evening wasn't a wash...The opening band was called Orange Sky there from Trinidad here's a link to there site (www.theorangesky.com) "They were awesome and there set was hella good!!!"

Allright so I'll skip all the bullshit and non-returned e-mails from Malmsteen's management leading up to tonight...I'm there to shoot the show on a freelance basis for the paper and I was told by the promoter cool go ahead...then 15 minutes before the show starts I'm told NO PHOTOS from anyone not even the amazingly gifted handsome and brilliant photographer Scott Stewart can take photos.

WTF kind of bullshit is this!?!? So washed up, past there prime, a million notes with no purpose, soul-less, blowhard swedish guitar players don't like there photos taken!?...Fuck em'...

Anyway I had a few pops, chatted with some friends and bailed...

This site is getting a major overhaul and all of my stock photos are being put away...So enjoy the myriad of photos in the galleries while there up because come December it's going to have a totally new look and porfolio section etc etc etc...

The merch page on the new site will have a book of my selected photos for sale, I'm doing this myself on the DIY tip and I really think your going to dig it...

I'll be shooting David "Fathead" Newman later this week and Living Colour on the 2nd of December - I've got some other really killer shit coming up to...I'll save that for next blog...

Wow!! King's-X is soooo awesome! (they always have been), I haven't seen these guys play since 2002 when I shot them opening up for Dream Theater...

It sucks that I have to drive to a shitty club in Buffalo to shoot one of the greatest bands on the planet (I wasn't on the list WTF happened Jay Phebus!?!? *Jay is King's-X's inept tour manager* that's a whole other story, anyway after 20 years these guys should be playing arenas!

Don't download there new album you cheap fucks go spend the $12.00 and support the band....They've really returned to form on this album Ogre Tones, "It's absolutely brilliant!"...They played just about the whole album in there set, which was totally cool w/me...

Had a chance to chat w/Doug and Gerry after the set, really nice guys...

I brought a killer 16x20 print to the show that I took a few years back and had Doug sign it (yea so what! - I'm a fan to!) "Doug if your reading this your 16x20 is in the mail lol"

I'll have pictures of the show up later this week I shot a half dozen rolls (no flash) and the club wasn't really well lit, which means it was tough to shoot, but we'll see what I've got when I get my prints back from the lab...

A'ight gotta bounce and catch some zzz's my daughter is going to be up really early in the morning wanting her daddy to make her waffles and dance to "The Wiggles" (If I die and go to hell, The Wiggles will be the house band)

Went and shot "The Bellrays" last night...they rocked my socks!

Got some great shots...the band was really cool and laid back, they let me shoot whatever I wanted to.

Lisa is a sweetheart, and hella sexy!

If your scratching your head going The Bellrays "who's that?"

Imagine, the charisma and attitude of Betty Davis (Miles ex-wife) got that? Now add a touch of Aretha Franklin's voice @ her peak in the 60's (before she started binging on Krispy Kreme's) and v'iola that's "Lisa Kekaula" vocalist for the Bellrays...

Now take that vivid image and throw in "The Stooges" as your band (get the picture?)

You really need to have your OWN opinion on this band don't waste time googling them and forming your thoughts around what somebody else thinks...

Just go to your favorite local indie store and pick up "Let it Blast", "Blind Fury" or "Red, White & Black" and turn up the stereo REALLY loud!

I've been shooting some great bands the past few weeks...

Just caught "The Dillinger Escape Plan" for the 3rd time, they are sooooo sick live...How the f**k do these guys play all of those wickedly complicated time signatures and also manage to run around stage diving and tossing amps around like rag dolls!?!

The night before "D.E.P" I caught "High on Fire" who are always very tight and heavy as hell...They opened for "Everytime I Die" who I'm not that hip to...I did know a few tunes...the band had a ton of energy, and sounded killer.

Saw KMFDM the other night, it was raining and cold out, on top of that I was in a crappy mood and didn't want to take photos however I'm glad I did because the shots came out wicked cool...I've seen KMFDM a half dozen times and I dig there music and legacy (this is no dis to the band) It's just that I'm over that whole standing on stage behind a few racks pretending to be all elusive and scary, speaking in german and playing the same ol' metal riff over and over ad-nauseum...*yawn* boring

I've been thinking about putting up more of my abstract photos ie: architecture, people, random photos...I'm not really sure how I want them published...I may add them to the already existing small galleries on the site or just have my web designer (who is the shit!) build me a separate site for that work *shrugs* who knows...I definitley want to get it out there so people can see it...I also don't want people to pigeonhole me into one style of photography (the live rock photographer) ya know...

Allright I'm going to finish the D.E.P gallery check it out when you get a minute...

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to Cleveland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

A lots been going on...I'm addicted to Hazelnut coffee, my daughters laugh and the D'Nell "1st Magic" album...can't get enough of those things...

Wow! It's been a minute since I've updated the site (apologies) it's been crazy @ work and home in my world (My 2 year old daughter Jordan is keeping me busy LOL!)

I've got some great stories to share from the Rochester International Jazz Festival and last weekends Rochester Music Fest...

I'm picking up my Common & Lyfe Jennings photos tomorrow from the lab and I'll publish new shots on the site from those shows later in the week...

Ok, I'm hearing and reading some amazing things about Star Wars & Crash - I'm debating on which one I want to see first - I'm a big Star Wars nerd so it looks like that's gong to be it...maybe I'll wait and just rent Crash *shrugs*

On the music tip the Team Sleep album is finally out, it got released a few weeks ago and WOW!! (Chino could sing the Mickey Mouse theme and make it sound rad)

I've published two new galleries on the site "Trashcan Sinatras" & "Midtown" - I'll be adding some color shots to both galleries in the next week or so...

I was flicking around the dial the other day and caught a bio on David LaChapelle (www.davidlachapelle.com) it was unreal, this dude is soooo gifted (I hate him LOL)...He seems super cool, and has done some absolutely breathtaking work - He's a HUGE inspiration on me (I've got to step up my game lol) - Keep doing your thing Diamond Dave...If you've got a minute and happen to stumble on the bio take some time and watch it...

What's Happening,

I'm jus chilln' put up a few new Sam Kininger photos...

Caught that movie "Man on Fire" last night - Wow! It was absolutely amazing (Denzel is the man - he can do anything) I keep saying they should make a movie of John Coltrane's life story and get Denzel to play the lead (how awesome would that be?)

I'm shooting the Reverend Horton Heat, The Supersuckers & Murphy's Law tomorrow night (what a freeging line-up huh?) should be a blast...the Rev always plays a great show...

Ok, I'm going to get outside and enjoy some of this warm weather...I'll update the site later this week with some more news and photos from The Rev show and the Trashcan Sinatra's show last week (what a great band - my 1st time seeing them live and they blew me away)

I've been super busy shooting a myriad of different projects (having a blast) - I got a chance to see Common & The Roots @ Syracuse University on the 12th - The show was absolutely bananas!! - Big hugs to Tina Farris (aka Good Time Girl) for putting me on the list with a photo pass (You Rock!) - I'm putting photos up from that show as I type this blog so have a look when your done reading this update...

Sin City is one of the best movies I've seen all year (go check it out when you get some time - your going to be blown away!)

Ok, here's the 411 on my book (thank you for all of the e-mails and questions on this) - Bottom line I got the finished product in my hands last month and just didn't dig it...I've got to iron out some minor issues and I'm going to shoot for an official release date in July (I'll keep you posted)

I published the new "Shonen Knife" Gallery today - The shots came out really cool..there on tour now in the states for a few months so if they come to your neck of the woods I would highly recommend checking them out...there one of my faves and even cuter live in person...

I picked up the new Mars Volta album "Frances the Mute" this weekend...OMG it's phe-fucking-nomenal!! www.themarsvolta.com

Go pick it up, it's on sale all over the place - I think "Best Buy" had it for $6.99...

Me personally I can't go into a chessy retail chain and buy music...even if it's cheaper (I feel to guilty and break out in a rash lol)...I'm all about the local mom and pop indie stores..SUPPORT THEM!!

I also copped the Sigur Ros album "Von" - This should be the soundtrack to a Clive Barker horror flick...very compelling and spooky *in a cool way*

Ok, I'm going to rant a while...

So dig this...last night 2/25/05 "I'm pumped up all day" because "Clark Terry" is playing @ the Eastman Theatre(http://www.rochester.edu/Eastman/concerts/)

Now I've taken photos @ this venue a myriad of times and for the most part it's been ok...although there's always someone who's got something to say if you've got a camera out and are taking photos (Fuck off I'm working!)

Back in 91 you could walk into a concert depending on the venue with your camera and take shots and not get attacked by the Road Manager, Security, Soundguy etc etc...

Now in 2005 it's a PR machine and you've got to have clearence from the bands management, there label, there mother ya da ya da...even with that you are more than likely going to have some asshole in your grill @ the venue asking you who your shooting for and do you have a photo pass (it's on my shirt, OPEN YOUR EYES!) Oh and by the way you can only shoot the 1st two songs and don't stand over there (Fuck off I'm working!)...most of the time these fucktards asking you the questions are the janitors @ the club...

I've been shooting a long time and I've covered a lot of shows and have some great contacts in the industry (it's all good for the most part)...I don't fuck around...I'm very professional when working...

So let me set this up for you:

So I call Harold @ home and we chat a little while, the convo goes something like this:

Mr. Danko: Hello?!

Me: Hi, Is Mr. Danko in?

Mr Danko: This is...

Me: Hey, this is Scott Stewart I'm returing your call in regards to your voice-mail - What's pop'n?

Mr. Danko: So Clark is hear tomorrow and you want to come down and shoot some photos for a story your covering huh?

Me: You got it...I spoke with Mr. Terry and he said were groovy..

Mr. Danko: Awesome! Can you get down to the venue for soundcheck tomorrow and take some shots then?

Me: You bet (my Daughter Jordan who is 2 years old enters the room @ this point and wants to play)

Mr. Danko: Great! the more the marrier...

Me: Can you hang on just a moment please "Jordan daddies coming" - Ok Mr. D see you tommorow thanks a lot..peace

Mr Danko is a stand up guy and very cool...

Cut to the soundcheck @ The Eastman:

I get to the venue walk in and sit down in the front...I'm looking through my bag for my lens and some film...the band of students is on stage and there's a bald guy with a camera and a HUGE lens strapped to it walking around on stage I've named him "yard ape" (this is the guy the Eastman has paid waaaaay to much money for and will only give them crappy photos...I'm his enemy because I'm wielding a camera as well and MY PHOTOS ARE GOING TO BE SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOURS!) anyway the place is a little chaotic sound guys doing there thing and people setting things up...I get my camera out and take a few shots of the students and the venue (the architecture in this building is gorgeous) plus I wanted to get a meter read for my shots...the lighting is always lame even though I'm @ the front of the stage...a few minutes later I notice Mr. Terry making his way on stage with his son helping him out..all of a sudden I get a tap on the shoulder it's:

Cheesy Eastman Employee Chick (CEEC for short)

CEEC: "Hi I'm so and so do you have authorization to take photos!?!?" (this was said with a lil attitude, which she isn't pulling off cause she's not that cute - NOW if she was a cutie saying this to me "It would have been on baby!"...cause I'm a good looking charming muthafucka!)

Me: I notice the (yard ape - see above) looking over @ me and CEEC while we are conversing...Yes I do have authorization "I'm thinking" (does she know who I am? "I'm Scott Stewart bee-otch!" what does she think I just walked in off the fucking street with a camera and started shooting?!?) I show her Mr Terry's e-mail and tell her I spoke with Mr.Danko as well...

EEC: Ok that's fine (more attitude) but the next time you come to the venue could you come see us @ the office (@ this point I'm not really paying attention and just want her to take a breath mint and get out of my face) I caught "no flash blah blah blah"...

Me: Ok (trying to be as fake and nice as possible) nice to meet you, do you have a card?

After CEEC with attitude and bad breath leaves me alone...I get up and move over to the front of the stage were Mr. Terry is sitting in his wheelchair...I'm looking for a shot..the yard ape is watching me and I'm ready to smack this idiot (Fuck off I'm working!)

So I pop off a few frames and immediately AGAIN someone from behind taps me on the shoulder I'm laughing inside when this happens thinking (Fuck off I'm working!)..The guy says "Hey do you have approval to be taking photos in here?" I say "Yes I do, would YOU like to see Mr.Terry's e-mail!?!"...The guy shakes his head no and goes about his business - Turns out this fucktard is the sound guy LOL!!

Anyway back to shooting the light sucks in the venue and I have to pull out a few of my tricks to get some shots...I'm blasting away and all of a sudden I get another tap on the shoulder - "Oh wow, unbelievable!!!"

Who's this shitbrick?!?

Facilities Manager of the Eastman lets call him (Uptight dude with the bad skin and Napolean complex)

My 1st thought this dude looks evil (Fuck off I'm working!)

I'm really uncomfortable @ this point because I'm getting hassled left and right and can't find my groove to shoot anything...I'm pissed and just want to bounce...

Conversation with (UDWBSANC) went down something like this...

UDWBSANC: Hi, *reaching out to shake my hand* I'm so and so (I'm thinking here we go again!) "I know you've spoke with Mr.Terry and Mr. Danko and have clearance to shoot however the nextime you come to MY venue I would appreciate it if you would first come by MY office to clear it with us "ya da ya da" (@ this point I'm just like ya know what this isn't even worth it - the next person who bugs me is going to get knocked the fuck out!)

Me: Yea ok (I've got to act all fake & nice again - the whole time I'm thinking your a dick!)

UDWBSANC leaves me alone.

My groove is completely blown @ this point but I try and shoot a few more frames - I know I got nothing...

So I throw my camera in the bag *disgusted and in need of a clove and a corona w/a lime* I'm packing up...I notice the yard ape checking me out and he gets a *fuck you* glare from me...

I stand up, turn around and OMG look who's sitting a few rows back pretending I'm not looking dead @ her...it's the "Cheesy Eastman Employee Chick (CEEC for short)" she's been sitting a few rows back watching me the WHOLE time, like I'm gonna bum rush the stage or I got a bomb in my bag...WTF is with the Funny Vibes!?!...I'm in the Twilight Zone!!!

I make up my mind to bail...even though I've got a few frames left on the roll I was shooting and didn't get to finish that, or say Hi to Mr. Terry and have him sign my album...

That was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had shooting in a LONG time! - Most of the time when I shoot it's cool not hassle free but it's comfortable...because people know who I am and they know my work...

Now I'm not dis'n the WHOLE Eastman staff. This is a great venue for concerts and there is some beautiful history and music still to this day being made in that building...and I know these folks were just trying to do there jobs (not well and they REALLY need to light'n up!)...

I also respect that they don't want just anybody walking into the venue with a camera taking photos..I dig that (but I'm not just anybody "I'm Scott Stewart bee-otchs!") and jokes aside I had ALL the approval I needed and didn't appreciate the smug attitudes and hassle I caught...It was completely not needed.

So in closing I would like to say Fuck You Very much for making my experience so absolutley horrific...

I published a new gallery from Shikandaza (read below for more on them)

Not since Hiroshima have we heard such a lovely blend of East meets West. Shikandaza, which means orchestra, consists of strings, flute, and percussion. "Shi" means strings in Japanese, while "kan" means flute, and "da" means percussion. In addition to this literal translation, the word also means "sincere effort to master the arts" in Zen Buddism. Traditional Japanese music doesn't always concern itself with rhythm... By teaming up with Vision Music President, keyboardist Ian Smith, Shikandaza has created a sort of Japanese Jazz. ON THE BRIDGE blends contemporary percussion, vocals and Hammond organ and keyboards with ancient Japanese instruments like the Shakuhachi (wind instrument played by Master Foozan Usui) and Koto (stringed instrument played by Yoka Nakayama and Miyako Kugai). This Asian fusion project makes for some really unique listening! The first track, "Bridge Over The Moon" is a wonderful example of just how artful this mixture of music is.

Just wanted to say hello...I'm updating the site with some new galleries this weekend and should have the new "Prints Page" up this week as well (I know it's taking forever)

I've had a few e-mails from bands & artists interested in getting promo photos done for there press kits -I'm always down for that if I have time and I dig the band...I know a lot of new bands and artists don't have truck loads of money you can always shoot me an e-mail or give me a call I'm sure we can work something out...

So dig this my book "Eye Contact" is finally complete!! It's @ the printer now getting pressed up...I can't wait to get the book in my hands...the final approved product looked super cool...your going to dig it...as soon as I get them I will update the site so you can check it out...and of course the book will be available for you to purchase...

The book itself contains a myriad of photos from a wide range of genres including backstage never before seen shots with the artists and photos that haven't been published on my site...I've been keeping a journal of show dates and interesting s**t that happens @ the shows and conversations with the artists that are also included in the linear notes...

The perfect coffee table book for the hipster : )

I'm also going to be giving away a few copies (signed and numbered) more on that later...

Hope everything is cool with you...Right now I'm just chill'n up-loading some Miles Davis & Sly Stone to my iPod (why the hell didn't I get the 40g? - The 20g and 5000 songs is not enough music to carry around in my pocket - especially for a music snob like myself)

Just wanted to check in and let you know I've published some new Calvin Richardson photos in his gallery...also added a few shots to the "Travel" gallery (more of those to come)

The New Limited Edition Prints Page will be published in early January - I think your really going to dig it, there's going to be a lot of killer images for you to choose from...

All of the photos for the book have been chosen (it took me forever!) - I can't wait to finish it and get it out there for you guys to check out...

On the web: www.fishbone.net is using some of my photos in there gallery on the site - It's great to see them back on-line again with the new site design and new management for the band - 2005 is going to be the year of the Bone! my early prediction.

Check the tour dates section and if there coming to your neck of the woods go and see them (they still rock shit live!)

The band also re-released Fishbone "The Reality of my Surroundings" on DVD - If you've seen the VHS it's basically the same thing nothing new added, it's just cool to have on DVD - They've also released Fishbone "Critical Times" the Henhouse Sessions (the band isn't supporting this release - but you gotta check it out anyway) - It's got some great footage of the band in the studio with there 99 thru 2002 line-up Spacey T (now gone), John McKnight (gone), Walt (gone - this sucks!) , John Steward, Wood and Angelo...you get a glimpse of the band working on new tracks and lots of interview footage - There's also some wicked studio footage with Trulio Disgracias and Angelo doing his Dr. Maddvibe thing...It's definetley worth the loot...Ok that's enough of me plugging the Bone...

You also need to cop Miles - "Electric" this is easlily the tightest dvd I've copped in ages...His complete 38 minute perfomance @ the historic "Isle of Wight" concert - This is the first DVD to be released that captures Miles transformation into the highly talked about "electric" period...there are some really wonderful interviews with Santana, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea etc etc...lots of extras (you'll love it if your a fan of his Bitches Brew album)

*segway* Ok I'm going to shift gears a minute - Ya know when nature does things like this it really has me just stop and spend some time thinking about how fragile and beautiful life is (it's corny) but enjoy your life and be a positive/beautiful person - My prayers and thoughts go out to all of the people & children who have passed on and all of those helping out in the Tsunami tragedy (god bless) - please do what you can on your end to help out...
